Dr. Leonard Baatiama

Senior Lecturer, School of Public Health, University of Ghana

Dr. Leonard Baatiema is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Health Policy, Planning and Management at the School of Public Health, University of Ghana. He holds a PhD in Public Health from the Australian Catholic University, Sydney, and an MSc in Health, Community, and Development from the London School of Economics and Political Science, UK. His research interests cut across non-communicable diseases (NCDs) and health systems, health policy analysis, primary health care, health sector reforms, human resources for health, and evidence synthesis. Dr. Baatiema has published widely in peer-reviewed journals, contributing to scholarship on how health systems in low- and middle-income countries can be strengthened to respond effectively to the double burden of communicable and non-communicable diseases. Beyond academia, he has collaborated with government institutions, development partners, and civil society organisations to translate evidence into policy and practice, particularly in areas of health system resilience, policy design, and capacity building for health professionals. His work emphasises linking research with practical solutions that improve health outcomes and equity. Dr. Baatiema is recognised as one of Ghana’s emerging public health scholars shaping national and global discourse on NCD prevention, health workforce development, and sustainable health reforms.
