Dr. Eugene Kobla Dordoye

Chief Executive of Mental Health Authority

Dr. Eugene Kobla Dordoye is the Acting Chief Executive of the Mental Health Authority of Ghana. A Consultant Psychiatrist and Senior Lecturer, he has served in leadership roles across Ghana’s psychiatric hospitals, including as Hospital Director of Ankaful Psychiatric Hospital. He has trained generations of mental health professionals through the University of Health and Allied Sciences, where he was the Head of Department, the University of Cape Coast, and Central University.

Dr. Dordoye holds advanced training in Drug Abuse Epidemiology from Johns Hopkins University in the United States and completed a fellowship in Geriatric Psychiatry at Zucker Hillside Hospital, New York. He has been a strong voice for evidence-based policy reform, including Ghana’s landmark decriminalization of suicidal behaviour in 2023, which shifted national response from punishment to compassion.

With more than a decade of clinical, academic, and advocacy experience, he is now leading a mental health agenda focused on universal primary mental healthcare, telepsychiatry expansion, and comprehensive workforce training, key pillars of Ghana’s roadmap to achieving universal health coverage and the Sustainable Development Goals.
